creating.paradise beginnings date back to 1990 when Bjoern Muelnickel starting playing with experimental electronic music.  He teamed up with Bjoern Honert off and on over the years, in the beginning as the project Syncout.  Like many electronic bands, these experiments continued over the years with various cassettes and demos released under both band names.  For a while in the late '90s, Bjoern Muelnickel would go solo again and bring creating.paradise to the world through the medium of mp3.de and mp3.com.  This opened up new doors and the project has evolved into what it is today with Bjoern Honert joining again as a full-time member.  Lost inside of this scenery became the debut album for this project in 1998 and began to define the core style of this group.  2002 saw the release of the sophomore work Thru the valley of darkness and finally 2004 we have their third work, a seven-track EP titled Killing Dreams.

Through all of these years, creating.paradise established their core style as a mid-tempo experimental progressive electronic group.  This style includes dark ambient soundscapes with a number of samples to the hard-pounding industrial beats that rivetheads love to hear.  Distorted vocals play a role, but the distortion is toned down enough to render the vocals recognizable and slightly melodic.  All of this provides an intelligent electro-industrial project that is accessible and enjoyable to fans across various EBM, industrial and electro-pop genres.

While this duo hails from Germany, with their latest releases and the exposure from the digital technology, they are managing to cross international boundaries to bring their music to the world.  This proves to be quite a feat for an un-signed band.  Avid listeners of Gothic Paradise radio will recognize the name of creating.paradise as a new regular rotation.  Be sure to check out more info by visiting their website and returning back here often.

Killing Dreams EP – Review

This independant band caught my attention in late 2004 when I heard their track "Pain Processor".  I later received their album and began listening with interest.  My first reaction was that this was a good electro-industrial band with the seven tracks I was presented on this demo / EP.  It all flows well from the upbeat tracks at the beginning to the dark ambient nature of the tracks that wrap it up.  The instrumentals as well as the vocal tracks portray power in the electronics and percussion.  The melodic nature of the slightly distorted vocals provide something that fans of the edgier industrial music can enjoy, but doesn't go so far as to drive away EBM fans with the smoother, melodic sounds.

The first two tracks were the first I heard before I received the CD and they continue to be my favorites from this disc.  Both tracks begin with great samples and electronics leading up to the pounding drums and electronic loops.  Both portray only slightly distorted or clear vocals for a great balance between harshness and melody.  Both are dance-friendly, which ends up being a factor in a lot of EBM and industrial-oriented music.  "Fingerprints" and "Weeping Angel" continue much in the same fashion, mainly adding a bit of distortion for more of an edge to each.  They drift away from the melodic nature slightly and build up to a powerful industrial flair.

There are two instrumental tracks, "Legasov" and "Sleeping in Concrete".  Both portray a myriad of samples and excellent synth-loops.  The music of "Legasov" continues in the powerful, dance-friendly industrial pattern while the german-language samples continue on throughout the track.  "Sleeping in Concrete" takes a turn towards the dark ambient realm with deep, distorted samples and no percussion.  This also is the finale to the CD and provides an excellent outro.

Overall, this has turned out to be a good demo of what this band is about.  I believe the first two tracks and the excellent ambient piece are what could be the trademark and solid defining style of this group.  An entire album based on these pieces will go far and so I look forward to more.
